DISC Assessments + Baseline Selling With Wayne Herring
At the beginning of the year we hired a sales management coach named Wayne Herring from Stronger Sales People. Wayne runs a mostly remote business from his farm in Pennsylvania, and we had never met in person — all of our coaching has been over the phone or video conferencing. Last week, we flew Wayne out to Boulder for a two-day business coaching workshop at the Ramblin Jackson office. In addition to being an expert at sales management, Wayne is a brilliant business coach with a lot of other skillsets. He’s worked with me on time management, leadership, and recently, using DISC Assessments to help manage Ramblin Jackson. (I’m a high D, then I, then C… low S, in case you were curious.)
Wayne led an incredible assessment of our current team and we learned a lot about what makes each other tick (and what NOT to do!) and how to run a better agency together. One of the most impactful things I’ve learned from Wayne is the Baseline Selling process, which Wayne learned directly from Dave Kurlan, and I highly recommend reading Kurlan’s book, Baseline Selling.

Wayne told me about a great process for making decisions which he learned from Taki Moore, a business coach for coaches based in Australia who’s also known as the Million Dollar Coach.
The process follows these questions:
Is it part of our Mission — do we even do this?
Is it my Role — not me.
Is it a priority — not now.
Yes – do it.
This inverted pyramid is a great visualization to have next to your desk to help you make decisions faster. The process reminds me a lot of using Logical Nodes, or Decision Trees — a process my dad taught me as a kid that is part of my daily planning.
