How does your Google my Business listing look? What is the photo that people see when you show up in search results? Google is always adding new ranking factors to their algorithm, and now your photos are a part of that.
Starting in 2016, Google started ranking businesses based on the quality and frequency of your photo updates in your Google my Business Listing. Companies who update their Google My Business photos more often and who are uploading high quality images will see their businesses rank better in the Local Pack search results, while businesses who haven’t updated their photos in years and have pixelated, irrelevant images will suffer.
These don’t have to be professional photos, but they should at least be smartphone quality. You can also add photos directly from your smartphone, so there’s nothing holding you back!
Another reason the photos on your listing are incredibly important is that customers look at them, and this is a reason for for them to choose you OR your competition. This is the first thing people see that differentiates your business from every other business out there when they are in search results, so you want to make sure you’re putting the right image out there! These could include interior or exterior shots of your storefront or office, team photos, logos, or pictures of your products or services in action.
Finally, Google also gives you insights into how your photos are performing compared to your competition, so you can see where you stand and start making adjustments to improve! Google will tell you if your photos are being viewed more or less than your competition. For instance, maybe your photos are being viewed 823% more than other businesses like you! They will also tell you how many photos you have compared to other businesses like yours, so you’ll know if you’re staying up to date or if you could be doing more to both set yourself apart in the customer’s eyes and in Google’s eyes alike!
