Welcome to the 122nd Feature of Friday’s Ramblin Roundup!

Did you know that the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 1800’s discovered 122 new animals?  Can you imagine traveling cross-country without roads…or cup holders?

Small Business Rundown: ReadyVet

Every now and then we feature one of our clients on the show and this week is a disaster.  This week’s client, Ready Vet, works to prepare animal-centered businesses like vet clinics to recover after any type of disaster.  Take a look at this video we produced for them and consider taking one of their animal CPR classes.

ProTip: Is Your WordPress Website Secure?

This weeks pro tip is to make sure you backup and update your WordPress website.

WordPress is a content management system that powers 17% of the web — a number that is increasing every day.

We Ramblin Jackson have been powering RamblinJackson.com for the past five years on WordPress, and we love doing custom WordPressWebsite Design for our clients because the sites empower them to blog, manage their own changes, and more.

But just as WordPress websites are easy to manage, they’re just as easy to hack when they’re not kept up to date. When your website gets hacked, it could instal malware on viewers machines, get blacklisted by Google, or even display links or advertisements to wild Russian pharmaceutical peddlers. Yuck!

We’ve actually seen several local businesses in Boulder have their websites hacked, and it isn’t pretty.  Most of these hacks could have have easily been prevented.

Throughout the year there are several WordPress version updates per year, and it’s important that you keep your site and all of its plugins up to date.

To keep your site safe, at minimum you should:

  • Regularly backup your site

  • Perform necessary WordPress version updates | WORDPRESS SECURITY WEBSITE.MOV

  • Keep your Plugins up to date with the latest WordPress Version | PLUGINS

  • Remove Spam Comments

  • Keep secure passwords and avoid the Username “Admin”

  • And have a maintenance plan in place.

Yup, I had my personal WordPress blog hacked. I had a topic go viral and the next day the post had all kinds of ‘ridicules’ misspellings which took over the entire conversation of the post.
