Facebook Data Mines, World Peace, and an SEO Tip…
Welcome to the 78th Feature of Friday’s Informal Films!
Remember records? Some spun at 78rpm – the super singles usually. But did you ever play them at 33rpm…? Did a strange voice tell you to do things… like to Like Ramblin Jackson on Facebook?!
Facebook Partners with Offline Loyalty Data Mining Firms
You know that shopper loyalty program you joined? It might save you a bit of money and is pretty cool, right? Facebook thinks so too…
Custom Audiences, a result of Facebook’s partnership with several data mining firms, is a product with the ability to target users based on their offline purchases through loyalty programs.
Creepy? Useful? Facebook ensures they won’t give away their loyal users’ personal information, and allow them to opt-out at any time. But even when you’re not on Facebook, they know what you Like.
Forest Whitaker Spreads World Peace through Technology
Can technology help promote world peace? Actor Forest Whitaker thinks so. Here’s how…
In war-torn regions of the world, one common thread typically links victims of violence and war – the lack of information…
Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker realizes the importance of education in currently isolated regions of the world. His belief is that a young developing generation, marked by war conflicts, could be provided with empowering solutions that would ultimately make a difference in our connected world.
Whitaker’s non-profit, PeaceEarth, began a series of peace-building modules where students from all parts of Africa could have access to the internet and be exposed to different ways of thinking. His goal, in conjunction with the United Nations, is to build a solidarity network that would ease tension among territories in conflict.
SEO TIP: Get Links Back to your Website!
This week’s pro tip might be the missing link between your website and your desired search engine rankings…
In addition to having the correct keywords throughout your web copy and meta data, Google also looks at the number and quality of links coming back to your site.
An easy way to get more links is to ASK — yes — ask for them! Ask your clients to link to you on their website! Get quality links from online press releases, the Chamber of Commerce directory, and people that you do business with.
Another thing you can do is comment on blogs, such as Ramblin Jackson’s, and add a link to your comment. To make this easy, create an account with Gravatar like we showed you a few weeks ago.
Comment now, right now!
